Education
We deliver educational excellence in many ways to researchers, clinicians, students and people living with disability.
The Alan Clarke Memorial Lecture (ACML) recognises the significant contributions that the founder of the Burwood Academy of Independent Living, Prof Alan Clarke made to medical and rehabilitation science and practice, and in particular, to the institutions of the University of Otago, and the Burwood Academy Trust.
We host regular events to support researchers, clinicians, students and people living with disability.
BAIL Presents
Showcasing the latest research and knowledge translation projects from New Zealand’s leading researchers and clinicians
BAIL Peer Group
A forum for students, clinicians and emerging researchers to network, receive informal peer review, and present research or clinical projects
BAIL Research Workshops
Group based presentations with a focus on research methods and interpreting research
BAIL scholars are supported either financially, philosophically and/or pragmatically to enable them as a postgraduate student (in rehabilitation, disability studies or related field) with a passion for Independent Living (IL), to further develop research interests, career opportunities and leadership potential.
BAIL has developed a tertiary level course with the aim of helping students to develop awareness of issues affecting individuals as they seek more independence after serious injury/impairment. This course is currently being offered through Ara Institute of Canterbury.
One important outcome of our research and knowledge translation is the development of educational resources. BAIL is committed to continue to provide resources which support the Independent Living (IL) paradigm.
