Movement to Music as a community support after stroke

BAIL_ICON_MAXIMISING_PARTICIPATION

Overview

Living well after stroke should be directed by the individual and their whānau, including being able to make choices in community supports that best align with their desires, aspirations, and goals. Movement to music is an example of a potential support that individuals could choose as part of their living well after stroke journey. It would be a semi-structured physical activity programmed conducted in a group under the direction of a physiotherapist and neurologic music therapist (NMT). By combining the physical activity of physiotherapy with the person-centred and holistic nature of music therapy, a new choice for living well after stroke emerges. One that is focused on putting physical activity within the broader holistic system of health and wellbeing, aligning with models such as Te Whare Tapa Whā for Māori and Fonofale for Pasifika.
